In our native Poitou region of France, we call this dish a MIGE (pronounced Mi'jay) and it's a refreshing summer afternoon snack. Imagine coming back from working in the field or the vegetable garden and sitting under the porch in 80F temperature and enjoying strawberries in red wine. Ahhhh!
Ingredients: (serves 4)
- 4 cups strawberries
- 1 cup red wine
- 2 tablespoons raw sugar
- 1 teaspoon mint
- 1 tablespoon rum
Production:
Wash the strawberries under running water. Drain and slice lengthwise.
In a bowl, mix the strawberries with the sugar and rum until sugar is dissolved and strawberries look shiny.
Add the wine and mint. Stir. Refrigerate for an hour, mixing occasionally.
Serve cold.
